Some others...

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street - 8

Did I really just enjoy a musical? Yup.

Smiley Face - 5

Occasionally funny stoner romp.

Reno 911!: Miami - 5

If you like the show (I have mixed feelings about it but my roomate in college loved it which eventually lead to it growing on me), then you will like the movie.

Apatow Crew Strikes Again...

Forgetting Sarah Marshall - 9

Who did they hire to market this movie? The previews for this looked so bad that I thought the Apatow train had finally come to a hault, but after hearing some amazing word of mouth reviews, I had to check it out. Hilarious. Right up there with Superbad and funnier than any other movie made in the last 5 years. Is it possible that everyone from the early Apatow years (Freaks & Greeks and Undeclared) is really this talented? So far, a resounding yes. I am more excited for the next Apatow Crew production, Pineapple Express, than any movie in a long while.

Sometimes funny, sometimes sad, ultimately the most disturbing movie that I have ever seen.

Gone Baby Gone

Gone Baby Gone - 9.5

Wow, this one definitely caught me offguard. Ben Affleck proves he can direct and younger brother Casey shows why he is one of the most sought after actors in Hollywood today. Amazing performances by Casey, Ed Harris, and Amy Ryan. Really though, when it comes down to it, this movie is all about the story which is powerful and thought provoking with unexpected turns and heart clenching twists. Easily one of the best movies of the year.

Catching up on some blockbusters

Spiderman 3 - 7

Call me crazy but this may have been my favorite of the series, which doesn't say too much b/c I didn't really like the first two but I really enjoyed watching this one.

National Treasure - 6.5

Again, another really enjoyable movie. At times you have to remind yourself that it is a Disney movie and not everything needs to make sense but if you can get over that, it is pretty fun. It's striving to be this generation's Indiana Jones and while it certainly doesn't compare in my opinion, it's not as far off as you'd expect.

Rescue Dawn - 8

Herzog is intense. Watching this movie reminded me of watching one of his earlier masterpieces, Aguirre: The Wrath of God. Watching Christian Bale and Steve Zahn starving and struggling in the jungle of Laos was amazing. Who knew Zahn had this in him?? Everything about this movie felt so real, and that, along with some great acting, really made the movie for me.

Shot in the Dark

Shot in the Dark - 6.5

Pretty fascinating look at Adrien Grenier's soul searching reunion with his birth father. It wasn't very well done but the intensity, intrigue, and truth in many of the scenes are almost overwhelming. Sort of a pyschological adventure.

Brooklyn Rules

Brooklyn Rules - 4.5

- Half the story, not to mention some direct quotes, are straight lifted from other famous "mafia" movies (particularly Goodfellas and The Godfather). Freddie Prinze, Jr. was an awful choice to play the lead but Scott Caan and Alec Baldwin were solid. This movie was filled with so many cliches throughout that, at times, really had me wondering whether or not I had already seen it before. However, by the time the movie ended, despite all the problems, I felt somewhat satisfied and while I certainly wouldn't reccomend watching this movie, it did have it's moments and I could probably think of worse things to do with 99 minutes.
